There is no night out in Tahoe quite like the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. The stage sits right on the sand at Sand Harbor, and the lake itself is the backdrop. As the sun drops behind the water and the granite boulders catch the last light, the show begins. It is theater in one of the most beautiful settings in the country.
The 2026 season brings two mainstage productions, Macbeth and The Heart of Robin Hood, running every evening from early July through late August, plus a showcase series of music and other performances woven through the summer.
The pre-show is half the experience. Get there early, spread a blanket on the sand, and bring a picnic and a bottle of wine, or grab food and drinks on site. Watch the sunset, let the kids play at the water's edge, and ease into the evening before the lights come up.
It does get cool on the beach after dark, so pack layers. And book ahead, because the popular nights sell out fast.
