When: June 18 to 21, 2026 (races across four days, morning starts)
Where: Palisades Tahoe, Olympic Valley
Cost: Free to watch, registration required to race
The Broken Arrow Skyrace is one of the biggest trail running weekends in the country, and it happens right up the road. For four days every June, Palisades Tahoe turns into a proving ground for mountain runners. The distances run from a kids race all the way up to the 46k, which sends runners more than 10,000 feet of climbing across some of the most rugged terrain in the Sierra.
If you have ever ridden the chairlift at Palisades and looked up at those jagged ridgelines, this is the race that goes straight over them. Runners scramble past KT-22, cross snow fields, climb ladders bolted into the rock, and traverse exposed ridges with the whole lake spread out below. It is the closest thing we have to a European skyrace, and the field draws elite athletes from around the world right alongside locals chasing a personal best.
You do not have to pin on a bib to be part of it. The Village fills with festival energy all weekend, with music, food, gear, beer, and films at night. Ride the aerial tram up to High Camp and you can watch the leaders push through the high country with a view most spectators never get. Bring layers, because the valley floor is warm in June but the top of the mountain is a different world.
This is mountain culture at full volume, and the kind of weekend that reminds you why people move here. Come cheer, come run, or just come soak it in.
